I really liked that episode, the abundance of shit jokes made it a little hard to watch at times, but I was really impressed by the ending.

New episode was good, but as ix said, the shit joke was a bit overused. If they'll finally stop with this season, i hope they'll make a feature to close things up.

i've heard many conflicting accounts of how they haven't actually signed the contract renewal yet vs. them renewing it already until 2013, so i dont really know which one is true at this point

there are no conflicting accounts. south park was renewed for 3 seasons in 2007, the 3rd being season 15. since then, south park has not been renewed for any further seasons.

they are contractually obligated to produce at least 7 more episodes. if the show isn't renewed over the summer then you can bet that part 2 of this season will be spent wrapping things up.

Well honestly they usually don't official announce renewal stuff until specific strange times of the year. Who knows, they may have already been renewed for another season or so. Or they're giving it as a personal decision to Matt and Trey if they want out. I dunno, this happens a lot, even though The Simpsons aren't renewed past this next season, they're still already writing episodes for the season following.

they could continue SP if they wanted to, because comedy central needs the ratings and there's no question it will be popular no matter what they do

but then they risk dragging the show out into stale mediocrity like the simpsons, which should have been put to rest years ago

it's best to end on a high note, and i think the show has pretty much run its course
