yeah but WHEN did they say they wouldn't make another console

minds change, and more importantly, executives and employees do

there's tons of ol' sega fanboys lurking about just pullin their dicks

endlessly waiting for a piece of fresh ass to jump on and devastate

rtil

it was quite a while ago

but this is the longest sega has ever gone not making a console

i think it's safe to say they'll never get back into the console business

Pants, the terrible

the sega 32x needs more games... i've been waiting 14 years for a new game, and nothing!

maybe i put my birthday money in the wrong place =(

Sega isn't going to go back to the console business. I think their only console that was a major success world wide was the Genesis and back then they only had to compete with Nintendo. Later on, it was difficult enough for them to compete with Sony and Nintendo, but now they would also have to compete with Microsoft. It would be a failure and they know it. Not to mention how much they benefit by releasing their games multiplatform and how their games outside of Sonic and Platinum Games titles generally don't sell that fantastic. Sega has also made a truckload of money off of the Mario & Sonic sports games and they can't make games like that without being a 3rd party. As for Sonic Adventure 3, it's very possible it'll never get and that might not be a bad thing. Look how disappointing Sonic 4 Episode 1 turned out. Trying to create a faithful successor to an old game is very difficult and the Adventure games were a mixed bag. Some of the gameplay was fantastic in those games while some of it was just... Very flawed. It's probably best they just keep trying to improve the Unleashed/Colors/Generations formula for now unless it gets stale.

but nobody truly loves sony or microsoft unless they're fucking gay and nintendo just overloads their junk with crappy gimmicks

rtil

the ps3 is starting to get more popular now. but the thing i always found interesting about sony is they don't have a mascot. with nintendo you have mario, with sega you have sonic.. sony doesn't really have any time-tested franchise to stand behind. for a while i guess it could have been crash bandicoot, but even that's hard to argue

Sinitron

it used to pretty much be crash and spyro with the PS1 but they sorta fell out of relevance when the later games were kind of below the expected standards

Pants, the terrible

they have... um...

that vice president douche?

wow... they really outmarket themselves with shooting titles so much that they forget to have something to remember them by... =(

Naughty Dog, Insomniac and their associated IPs are kinda like Sony's mascots in my book

Not that I give a damn about their PS3 stuff

Games by Naughty Dog and IG are pretty much their mascots. Nathan Drake could probably be considered the PS3's main mascot since the R&C games aren't promoted like they used to be.

Edit-

Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony are going to be console manufacturers for at least another generation or two. It's just too hard for Sega to compete and they would probably make more money as a third party.

You never know... Apple may end up releasing a home console to play your ANGRY BIRDS on a a 58-inch plasma TV. High Definition avians!

Sinitron

it will cost an arm and a leg but hey it's a shitty flash game!! fuck

It's probably best Apple sticks to gaming on their portable devices and Mac, especially now that Steve Jobs is dead.

FUCKYOU

What the hell could that game possibly be about? I mean, really. If wanted to play a game as a gay ninja, I'd pick up any one of the 50 Naruto games there are and play as sauce-gay.

On topic: Sonic's first adventure into "3D" was Sonic 3D Blast. That game was probably one of my all time childhood favorites. Many could argue that the game was just isometric not true 3D, but meh, it was kickass for 1996. My only gripe is that the bonus stages were waaaay too easy. You could practically have all the chaos emeralds by act 2 of the second stage. The music was amazing too, both for the Genesis and Sega Saturn. Here's an example:

Sonic 3D Music: Gene Gadget Zone Act 1

Sonic 3D (Saturn) Music: Gene Gadget Zone Act 1

It was actually pretty clever of Sonic Team to make the soundtracks different from each other. Obviously, the Saturn benefited from using CD technology, so overall, better sounding music. Also, the stages were quite different from the two ports. With the Genesis having a less colorful and natural looking environment:

While the Saturn had lush areas for Sonic to run around in, with increased textures:

Sonic 3D Blast is an underrated classic and the PC version is the first Sonic game I ever owned. I love the game.

What? ._. 3D Blast was released for the original Genesis and Sega Saturn, not that shitty hardware nightmare known as the 32X. To best of my knowledge at least.
