its half nostalgic grasps at my stolen childhood and half pwning noobs with shitty pokemon like golduck

rtil's right about the fact that nostalgia plays a big part in it. i'm super opposed to a lot of these new pokemon because they're just nothing like the original 251 or so or even some of the evos from gen 4

still a really solid game though.

Abnormal

the original pokemon were the first 151, why would you say original 251 what the ffff
because ho-oh was seen in the first episode of pokemon, which would mean that the second generation was done way before it was released? if so, the game came out way before the anime so i still stand correct

there are a lot of second gen pokemon who look weird, the first 151 are the ones i and probably everyone grew up with, the next 100 not so much

Everyone complains that the ideas/names are stupid now but they forget to realized that the original pokemon had some really stupid names/ideas as well. Like Seel, or making a pile of sludge a pokemon.

Never played a single pokemon game but I was thinking of getting this just to see if I like it. Just curious, for the people who have played it, is it an entirely safe game? Like do you get to play any scary or memorable moments or actions that change the outcomes of the game/story? Or is like you just collect all the animals and sent Team Rocket blasting off again?

The ingame of pokemon is usually pretty easy. I mean if you're looking for plot, pokemon isnt the game (however this one is the most plot driven.) The story on this game is the most interesting one out of the entire series. It was decent enough where I was trying to follow it and the story plays a pretty big role in this game. The pokemon stories are always pretty linear (you cant really have different outcomes). Although it is probably the easiest in the series, its probably one of the best to start out on if you've never played pokemon. However, the post game (after you beat the elite 4) the game is pretty damn hard.

The mulitplayer is probably more fun on this version than any other game. Its a decent time killer and really all the great stuff you can do after you beat the game and all the exploring is really great in this one. Its worth the money to play.

story has never ever mattered in pokemon but they've put a bit more effort in here

the main appeal has pretty much always been raising and training a 6-piece team of destruction, fighting your friends, fighting people online and seeking out the rare/legendary ones

pretty much 90% of the game is turn based fighting so if you don't like that you're not gonna like pokemon

Okay thanks guys that was helpful!  hmm...it sounds fun enough to play but requires a lot of time investment to become fun and I never have a lot of time, so maybe I'll just get it when the price goes down (or get a used one) in case I don't get far I don't waste a lot of money.

I've only just arrived at the 4th gym and I've already invested 13 hours into the game, then again I've been level grinding like a mother fucker with a full party since the first gym.

<@reptilicus> if i go to the toilet will poop go up into my rectum

Philip K Dick

why would you grind in this game

at all

ever

you could literally avoid every skippable trainer in the game and still pwn the elite four with a level 40 excadrill

Thats eactly how i felt. Theres absolutely no need to level grind in this game.

Because I work on my pokedex as I go, everything I catch that can be evolved with training in the area I'm in, I will evolve. Also, many of the unevolved Pokemans suck, hard, but evolve at much higher levels than previous games.
