Quote from: rtili'm going to have to completely disagree with the scenario because the logic is totally unsound. one less person bringing attention to WBC is an effective response. you're still using the argument that you may as well bring more attention to them simply because others are doing it, with the guise of "i am doing something good", when in reality you're using WBC's presence as a secondary excuse for doing so.

and you may as well never make any decisions on your own in the long run if your logic follows mob mentality.

so is it better for no counter-protesters against this absurd hate group to show up at all, instead of having them show up and accomplish good deeds, set up charities and send a message of social tolerance to easily influenced people young and old?

your argument of "don't go mock them, they all want attention anyways" forget that there are people who support this group, and they will show up, and they will think themselves strong for meeting no opposition. plus they'll get a chance to impress the bystanders. come on. you know people are dumb enough to fall for this shit if there's nobody witty joking about hate groups nearby.

even if you shrug off everything i wrote above, i still think it's better for some people to take this chance to accomplish something positive, instead of waiting for it to die. which is unlikely, because of mob mentality (i agree, it's a fucking pain), and there will always be enough lunatics, veterans or beginners, to fuel this crap around.

rtil

i don't know if there are many sympathizers with WBC.. maybe if it was some generic evangelical anti-abortion thing, but these people parade around with posters like "god loves dead soldiers", they're pretty much hated by everyone. and that's actually what fuels them, they love to be hated, and they love the attention. i really think that's a big part of why they do it. they don't fund anything, they don't push any agenda, they are simply there, and they travel all around the country basically being real life trolls.

they're not really part of a cause, they're just some weird ass cult. i'd be more inclined to counter a group like that with charity and goodwill if they were actually endangering human rights or something, but when you get right down to it they're just a bunch of inbred trollbaiters. they're really not worth anyone's time.

Flash

i can only hope that's true. it wouldn't surprise me if it wasn't lmao

trent bortknob

yeah though i kind of agree with flash, you might be overestimating the amount of supporters that group has. last time i heard, at max 3 people outside of the large phelps family in kansas were a part of the church
