I loved the slow serene parts in the Triplets of Bellville, so this one looks like another classic!!  That skinny singer with no feet was awesome looking too haha.

Although in the back of my mind, I am sad to know it will probably get only a limited run here in the US and the general US audience will go "Boooorrrriiinngg" :<

I saw it today ^_^ I like how my previous comment from FEB last year was actually correct haha. I saw it in this old theatre in San Francisco where it has one screen and only 3 screen times and will be playing here for 2 weeks.  Which is why I had to jump on this quick to catch the film.


Review: The story has a very slow and relaxing pace. A person will be able to enjoy all the subtle gestures of the character and read into the emotions without any of them saying a word. In fact the whole movie is basically mime...they make some sounds and things but there are no subtitles because nobody says any real words...it's all told through actions and the animation. But unlike the Triplets of Bellville, this is NOT a comedy. It has some upbeat moments but overall it's a sad film and I saw a lot of the other viewers with a tear in their eyes because you grow with the characters in time and some moments really make you think. Some of the topics touched in the film are: paupers who want to be rich, lonely people who want to be noticed, fake people who wish they had real friends, broken dreams that have no salvation, and a world that's lost all its magic. One nice thing about this one when compared to the triplets film is that it has a solid ending that you can walk away accepting believably (imo triplets didn't know how to end), but this one sure does and its great. I also LOVED the faces and styles of people you see in this movie...they are so grotesque because they are actually kind of real haha. Anyways, this is MUST SEE if you like watching animation and paying attention to a film with a slow pace and seeing where it goes (aka. you cannot have ADD to watch this haha.) Btw French animation is my favorite because of the level of skill, color, and atmosphere they use and they use it in its glory throughout this film.

It just got nominated for the animated film category in the Oscars,  I'm glad. (Although I know it probably won't win because it's against how to train your dragon and toy story 3 <--which has a best picture nomination as well!!)
