Going to Toronto

I'm going with a friend to help him scout locations for a short film he's going to make.

Does anyone have any tips about good places to go/see?  There's a good chance we'll just be sleeping in the car for a night or two, but if anyone knows of some good/cheap hotels I'd love to hear about them.

check out Casa Loma (it's a castle/manor/????) up there. I'm not sure of what sort of credentials you would need to film there

I'd actually stay in Markham, its closeby to Toronto and there's an expressway near one of the hotels (I believe its the Holiday Inn with the twin Esso stations near it) that leads nicely to downtown.

Markham also has its own gimmick in the form of the Pacific Mall. It's a sort of Asian mall, all the stores are arrayed in a street-like pattern in glass "boxes", there's a food court and arcade on the top floor too! the arcade there allegedly isn't as good as it used to be, but its filled with a lot of Japanese shooters and fighters, and be sure not to make yourself look like an idiot playing Para Para Paradise; the motion-sensing dance game that pre-dates both Kinect and Wii by miles.

Yes, all the places in scott pilgrim are real places except for his apartment and the Chaos Theatre. Pizza Pizza is a real place too.
